According to a report, its groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place this month.

Referring to the buildings located at the former Central 911 Building along C. Bangoy Street, in front of the Davao Light and Power Company, Ms. Pedrita Badar, Davao City Library head, said on Wednesday that the demolition will be started this week by the contractor.

“I’ve already told them (contractors) to start (the demolition). City Engineer’s Office and City Environment and National Resources Office (Cenro) will assist them,” she said.

The Library head also said that the ground floor will assist to the persons with disabilities (PWDs), children and senior citizens.

The 4-storey building will have elevators with each floor having their respective restrooms.

Badar added that a designated floor area will be for the computer room. To date, the computers they current have are only 10. But as per Badar, they are already requesting for 20 more to be used for the new building.

She also mentioned that the additional manpower was part of the proposal. However, she said 'it will not be immediate' as they will need to revisit the existing positions available first as much as they need to observe the demand for staff on the library’s first six months of operation.

“It (addition of personnel) will not be immediate since we need to observe the demand first,” she said.

The project, which has the expected date of completion in 2019, is funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, report says.
